Karper Creatives Scholarship

Music changes lives. This scholarship helps kids grow in confidence, skill, and joy.

A Scholarship That Helps Kids Grow Through Music

Music changes lives. It builds confidence, discipline, creativity, and joy — and it connects children to a caring community. Cacapon Music and Dance is proud to partner with The Cat and The Fiddle through the Karper Creatives Scholarship to make it possible for children and youth in Hampshire County to learn an instrument, receive quality instruction, and experience the support of a musical family at a budget that enables families in our community to thrive.

Who Can Apply

This scholarship is designed for children and youth who are ready to learn, participate, and grow through music.

  • First-time applicants should be in grades 3–10
  • Students who have already received a scholarship may reapply and stay in the program until age 18
  • Applicants should live in Hampshire County or surrounding areas
  • Enrollment is open year-round

Our goal is simple: make sure every child who wants to learn music has the chance to do so, regardless of financial barriers or access to lessons. When a child receives this scholarship, they receive not just instruction — they gain encouragement, confidence, belonging, and opportunity.

What Scholarship Students Receive

When a student joins this program, they are welcomed into a supportive musical community and given everything they need to learn, grow, and succeed.

  • 30 weeks of private, 1-on-1 lessons with a professional instructor
  • Group ensemble classes throughout the year to build teamwork and confidence
  • An instrument to play at home, and for many students, the opportunity to keep it after successful completion of the program
  • Performance opportunities, including student recitals and community events
  • Workshops, field trips, and special learning experiences
  • Most importantly — encouragement, belonging, and the joy of music

This scholarship is about far more than lessons. It's about helping young people discover their voice, gain confidence, and feel supported by a caring musical family.

Commitment & Participation

This scholarship is a wonderful opportunity, and it works best when students stay engaged, supported, and involved. We partner with families to help each student succeed.

Students receiving a scholarship are expected to:

  • Attend weekly private lessons
  • Participate in group classes, workshops, and field trips when offered
  • Take part in at least three music-related community events (concerts, jams, recitals, or open mics)
  • Practice regularly to build skills and confidence

We know families are busy and kids have many responsibilities — communication and effort are what matter most. If challenges come up, we work with families to keep students supported, encouraged, and growing.
